Interesting news on the Superman: Man of Steel front. Academy Award nominee Diane Lane (Unfaithful) has signed on to play Martha Kent, Clark Kent's Earth mother, in director Zack Snyder's reboot. In my opinion Diane Lane is without question the hottest woman over 40 in Hollywood. If you haven't had the chance to see the movie Unfaithful you need to. (No seriously stop reading my post right now and go rent the movie.)
The fact that Diane Lane is so beautiful runs counter to what the real Martha Kent looks like as seen from the above picture. For those of you who don't know, Superman's Earth parents were in their mid to late 40s when the son of Jor-El crashed on Earth. Phillis Thaxter played the original Martha Kent in the 1978 feature film and she looked more like that woman from the painting with the guy holding the pitchfork.
In a previous post I mentioned that Kevin Costner is being pursued (supposedly) for the role of Jonathan Kent. Costner and Diane Lane would make a great on screen couple as Clark's parents but are they too young? I guess there is always the possibility that both could be given prosthetic makeup to make them look older. Either way I think Snyder is doing the right thing by surrounding himself with Oscar caliber actors.
Whether or not it will make the film Kryptonite proof remains to be seen.
